Chrysanthemum Project
For almost 2 decades i have lived in Athens, Georgia, a lovely little town northeast of Atlanta near the foothills of the Appalachian trail in the heart of the south. For all these years the good people of Town have supported my art and allowed me to grow in countless ways as a painter and designer. This non-profit project is my way of saying thank you and returning the love.
In the practice of Feng Shui the chrysanthemum is considered one of the four noble flowers, symbolizing permanence and long life, and are believed to bring laughter and happiness into the home. I would like to expand this idea to the broader context of community.
As of 2011, i have painted 6 flowers in public places, a few in private, and have 3 more lined up to paint this summer, if it would kindly stop raining for a few days. My hope is to create a public landmark to my appreciation of this community, something beautiful to surprise or inspire the viewer as they go about their daily business.
